The rectangle method is a common method to draw an ellipse. In this post, we will learn how to draw an ellipse by using the rectangle method.

Procedure:

1. Draw a rectangle taking major and minor axes as sides or as per the question.
2. Select the upper left part of the rectangle. Divide the vertical small side and the horizontal long side into the same number of equal parts. (here divided into five parts.) (Don't know how to divide a line into equal parts? to know, click here.)
3. Name the points as given in the figure.
4. Connect all vertical points 1,2,3,4 to the upper end of the minor axis(point C). Repeat same for the point D.
5. Extend line C1  up to D4 and mark the point. Similarly extend C2, C3, and C4 lines up to D2, D3, and D4 lines and mark all the points.
6. Connect all the marked points.
7. Repeat the same method for the other parts of the rectangle.
8. Your ellipse is ready!
