Construction of a pentagon
Here, we'll learn how can we can draw a pentagon very easily and efficiently. For example, we'll draw a pentagon of side 40 mm (= 4 cm). We can draw any length of a pentagon by following the given method.
Question: Draw a regular pentagon with one side = 40mm (Using the universal circle method).
Solution:
Procedure:
- Draw a horizontal line of 40mm and name it AB.
- Draw a vertical line of 40mm from point B and name it BR.
- Connect points A and R.
- Take a compass with a radius of 40mm and draw an arc from point A to R, taking the center as point B.
- Now draw the perpendicular bisector of the side AB.
- At which point the perpendicular bisector and line AR intersects, name that point 4, and where the perpendicular bisector and the arc AR intersect, name that point 6.
- At the midpoint of line 46, name that point 5 as shown in the solution.
- Draw a circle of radius A5 using a compass, taking the center as point 5.
- Now take a radius of 40mm in the compass and draw an arc on the circle of radius A5 from point B. Name that point C.
- Repeat the similar process for points C, D, and E as shown in the figure.
- Connect all the points A, B, C, D, and E.
- Your pentagon is ready.
