What are the types of 'Dimensioning System' in Engineering Graphics?

Dimensioning System:

In this post, we'll learn about the different types of dimensioning systems in engineering graphics.

In engineering drawing, There are 2 ways in which we can show the dimensions of the drawing or an object:

Aligned System
Unidirectional System

1) Aligned System:

As shown in the image, in this method the dimensions are always shown above the dimensional line. in this method, we have to write the numbers perpendicular to the dimensional line. (eg. if the dimensional line is vertical, the numbers must present vertically as per the dimensional line.) Take note that the numbers should never touch the aero.

2) Unidirectional System:

As shown in the image, in this method the dimensions are always shown in between the dimensional line. In this method, there is no need to write numbers perpendicular to the dimensional line. The numbers must have been written horizontally.
